Instead of dropping a skip and returning days later, the driver stays with the lorry, gives you a set loading window, and drives the filled skip away in the same visit. How it works

How wait and load works, step by step

  1. Book a slot. Tell us your postcode, the type of waste, and roughly how much there is. We book a time that suits you.
  2. The lorry arrives. Our driver brings the skip on the lorry and parks safely on the road or outside your property.
  3. You load within the window. You have a set loading window, usually around twenty to forty minutes, to fill the skip. Having the waste ready to go makes this quick and stress free.
  4. We take it away. As soon as it is loaded, the skip goes back on the lorry and leaves with your waste. Nothing is left behind on your street.
  5. Your waste is dealt with responsibly. It goes to a licensed facility where as much as possible is recycled, and we hold the paperwork that proves it.

Why you usually will not need a council permit

This is the real advantage of wait and load, and it is worth understanding properly rather than taking the usual blanket claim at face value.

The permit rule applies to a skip that is left on the road

Under section 139 of the Highways Act 1980, a skip deposited on a public highway needs the permission of the highway authority, which in practice is the council. That rule exists because a skip sitting on the road unattended has to be lit at night, marked to a set standard, and managed for public safety.

A wait and load skip is never deposited

With wait and load the skip is attended by our driver the whole time and removed in the same visit. Because it is not left standing on the highway, it normally falls outside the permit requirement that applies to a deposited skip. That is exactly what saves you the permit fee and the days of waiting for council approval.

A few councils take a stricter line, so we check for you

Permit policy is set locally, and a small number of authorities treat any skip on the road, even a supervised one, as needing a licence. Rather than promise a blanket no permit and risk a problem on the day, we confirm the position for your specific street when you book. Grab hire, by contrast, uses a hydraulic arm to scoop heavy loose material such as soil, clay, hardcore and rubble straight off the ground, which is far quicker for muck away on a building or groundworks job.
